 ON-LINE GALLERY

West End Stop - (Studio) 10"x 20", Oil on Canvas. Dallas' West End is a bustling warehouse-turned-shops and restaurant district. Casual and pedestrian-friendly - it's much better to walk than drive the area. Or you can take a carriage.
Cactus Flower - (Studio) 11"x 14", Oil on Panel. Growing up in the New Jersey suburbs, my introduction to Texas came in the form of Saturday morning Westerns and Warner Brothers cartoons. Tumbleweeds, Road Runners and Cactus (just to begin with) were exotic then, and have fascinated me since. These desert specimens were referenced from plantings in downtown Dallas.
Down to Spring Creek - (Plein Air) 9"x 12", Oil on panel. Garland,TX is kown more for its business parks and rooftops than scenes like this. But hidden in the trees at Spring Creek Preserve is its namesake waterway cutting deep into the blackland prairie and the white bedrock below.
Drifting Aromas - (Studio) 18"x 14", Oil on canvas. The drifting aromas of freshly brewing coffee or hearty beef stew are most memorable when originating from an outdoor kitchen and an open campfire. Exhibited at Salon International 2010, Greenhouse Gallery, San Antonio, TX

Sunshine - (Studio) 7"x 5", Oil on panel (SOLD)

Cactus Stand - (Plein Air) 9"x 12", Oil on panel. This painting was was honored with an AWARD OF MERIT in the Outdoor Painters Society "Plein Air Southwest" show in 2009.
Quarter After Six - (Plein Air) 8"x10", Oil on panel. (SOLD) This is the Franklin County courthouse in Mt Vernon, TX. Like many small town centers, it was bypassed years ago by the interstate. Too quiet now for some, but not this Dallas Metroplex refugee. My wife toured the Don Merideth Museum (it's his home town!) and the few open shops on this Saturday afternoon, while I worked at my easel. Afterwards we had an excellent dinner at Mickey's Cafe just behind me on the square.
South of Main, Mt Vernon - (Plein Air) 5"x7", Oil on panel. (SOLD) Sunday morning off the square in Mt Vernon, TX. I'm told this East Texas town, and Franklin County seat, is actually named after the historic George Washington estate. You might be right to guess where the county name comes from as well.
Rider Study 2 - (Studio) 10"x8", Oil on panel. As a painter, I love the horse for its sculptural quality - and the interaction of these stately beasts with their riders. Available at Adobe Gallery, FT Worth, TX

T Truck - (Studio) 6"x8", Oil on panel. (Available at Frame Up Gallery) My wife tells stories of her family being part of an antique car club when she was a child. We saw this Model T truck recently at a car show in Big Bay while visiting family in Michigan.  "As it chugs along the road, the radiator springs a leak. It doesn't mind how big the load, even though the tires do squeak." - E. B. Clemens
Roses and Crabapples - (Still Life) 5"x7", Oil on panel. (SOLD) The typical 90+ degree heat withers the Texas growing season, but these hardy antique roses still put forth summer color.

My interest ranges from landscape to figurative to still life and western in subject. With sketchbook in-hand, I explore the possibilities wherever I happen to be. I work mostly in oils, both studio and plein air, my passion being the outdoor painting. Appealing to the wanderer in me, it combines a love of the outdoors and the challenge of capturing what I see with pen, pencil and brush.

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities ... have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made..." Romans 1:20
Amish Vendor - 7" x 5" oil on panel (SOLD). Painted during the annual "Paint Waxahachie" quick-draw, this earned 1st place honors in the judging.
Rider Study 1.
10" x 8" Oil on Panel Available at Adobe Gallery, FT Worth, TX

"A MOMENT'S PAUSE"

Graphite on paper. Approx. 7x5".  (SOLD) "Pencil painting" is how Ferdinand Petrie introduced this method of drawing while I attended duCret School of Art. I love the sense of color that the use of various lead hardnesses will produce.
