Thorns and Barbs - (Studio) 11" x 14" Oil on panel. (SOLD) West Texas cacti. From mesquite trees and locusts to ground huggers like nettles and cactus, much of the natural beauty of this state is guarded by thorns especially heading west.
Waiting- (Studio) 10" x 8" Oil on panel. At a living history event not long ago, my wife and I, along with other members of the CWCT, took up residence in an historic village in Round Top, TX. Because of fire danger, in earlier days cooking was done either in separate buildings or outside. We set up kitchen on the large porch of our house and built a cooking fire in the yard. It became an inviting situation for friendly visits from the public and our living history neighbors like this young lady. (Available at Frame Up Gallery)
Rider Study 2- (Studio) 10"x8", Oil on panel. (SOLD) As a painter, I love the horse for its sculptural quality - and the interaction of these stately beasts with their riders.
With interests ranging from landscape to figurative to still life; I work mostly in oils both indoors and "en plein air" - or outdoors. Appealing to the wanderer in me, plein air combines a love of the outdoors and the challenge of capturing what I see with pen, pencil and brush.

Tree Fall. (plein air) 5"x7" oil on panel.
Behind Ballard. (plein air) 9"x12" oil on panel. These buildings date from when Wylie, TX was a farming community. Ballard, the main street in town, was the place to visit. Still is.

Gold Star (Memorial Day 2011) 7" x 5" Plein Air. Oil on Panel. This is a show house in Waxahachie for the annual Gingerbread Tour. As I worked it slowly dawned on me that there was a small gold star banner in the window. Gold - meaning a family member had died while in military service. Made me stop to think. Much like Memorial Day.
Lamb's Ear 5" x 7" Plein Air Study. Oil on Panel

"A MOMENT'S PAUSE"
Graphite on paper. Approx. 7x5". (SOLD) "Pencil painting" is how Ferdinand Petrie introduced this method of drawing while I attended duCret School of Art. I love the sense of color that the use of various lead hardnesses will produce.
